As food and grocery prices continue to rise in the United States, one American living in Ireland decided to take her visiting parents to her local store, which quickly became one of their favourite places.
Lidl is often declared one of the cheapest in the UK by the , with only beating them as the cheapest place to do your weekly shop. While isn't a British supermarket, as it was founded in Germany in 1932, the supermarket chain has over 960 stores across the UK and a further 180 stores all over Ireland. While there are about 185 Lidl stores across the United States, many Americans have never heard about the chain before coming to Europe.
One of these is Delia Moore, who moved to Limerick in Ireland in 2024 after being signed onto Limerick Sports Huskies for their basketball team for the 24/25 season. Delia moved over from California and soon became an important part of the team for the current season.
On April 16, Delia shared a video onto her account where she shared that her parents had travelled from California in the United States over to Limerick to visit their daughter. And one of the places Delia decided to take their parents to was her local Lidl store.
"POV you bring your parents to Lidl (we live in California where eggs are $15 [£11])," she wrote on the video.
The clip began with Delia showing her parents looking at the well-loved bakery aisle, making sure to kneel down to look at everything before they moved on to the coffee and tea aisle.
"Overwhelmed with the selection and and prices," Delia wrote as she filmed her dad kneeling down to compare different kinds of coffee beans, with his wife standing closely behind him.
Her dad then moved over to the middle-aisles, where he contemplated buying himself some socks that he had found. Meanwhile, her mum was in the cake aisle admiring the selection available. Several minutes go buy before the dad decides to buy the socks, and Delia revealed they're now 'his favourite socks'.
Taking to the caption of the video, Dalia said: "I think it's their favourite place in Ireland actually."
People were quick to take to the comments, where viewers shared their own experiences of showing their parents new things, while some suggested others stores they should visit together.
One person suggested: "The variety isn't even that great. Take them to big !" To this, another person suggested: "Tease them with a 'little' Tesco. Then go all out with a 'big' Tesco."
Another person went on to share their own experience of sharing a new supermarket with their parents. They wrote: "I introduced my mother to meal deals yesterday, she spent a good 20 minutes thinking about her lunch combination at . it's all she ever spoke about for an hour straight."
"Thats probably how we Europeans feel when we go to Target or Walmart for the first time," a fourth person said.
While a fifth person added: "Tbh your dad looks like any other Irish dad in the middle aisle of Lidl. That middle aisle gets men of a certain age no matter the nationality."
